Why not launch everywhere at once
It’s the obvious thing to want and it produces a bad app. Dating apps live or die on density: a hundred people spread across twenty cities means nobody has anyone to match with, and everyone who tries it in week one leaves and doesn’t come back. You only get one first impression per city.
So we open a city when enough people are waiting in it to make the app worth opening. That’s slower, and it’s the reason the waitlist matters — it’s not a marketing list, it’s the input to the decision.
Common questions
Is Ember available in my city?
Ember opens in Bengaluru first, with other Indian cities following about a week later and further markets after that. If your city isn't listed yet, joining the waitlist from it is the clearest signal you can send us.
How do you decide which city opens next?
Waitlist numbers, mostly. A dating app is only useful where enough people are on it, so we open a city once there are enough people waiting to make it work on day one rather than spreading thinly everywhere.
Can I use Ember if I travel?
Ember is built around who's actually near you, so it works best in cities where it has opened. If you move or travel often, joining the waitlist for both cities is the sensible approach.
