Meeting someone new should feel safe.

Ask people in Delhi why they stopped using dating apps and safety comes up faster and more often than anywhere else we asked. Not as a vague worry — as specific accounts of profiles that turned out to be someone else entirely, of accounts that reappeared a week after being blocked, of a report that went nowhere.

Most apps treat verification as an optional badge, which means the people most likely to skip it are exactly the ones you’d want it from. Ember makes it mandatory. An unverified profile is not shown to anyone, ever — there is no version of the app where you’re looking at an unchecked account.

We’d rather be precise than reassuring. Verification proves the person in the photos is the person on the account. It does not vouch for how they’ll behave, and no app’s system can. Anyone claiming otherwise is selling you a feeling rather than a safeguard.

Meet somewhere public the first few times. Tell a friend where you’re going. Trust your read if something feels off — you are allowed to leave. What Ember removes is the layer beneath all of that: the question of whether the person is real at all.
