Ember basics
What is Ember?
Ember is a dating app built around two choices most apps decline to make: every profile passes an identity and photo check before anyone can see it, and you get a small set of compatible people each day instead of an infinite deck. It is made by Clarzen Technologies and opens in Bengaluru first.
Is Ember free?
Yes. Profiles, matching, chat and filters are free forever. Ember Premium adds extras such as seeing who liked you and more daily likes, but it never sits between you and a conversation, and paying does not raise the daily deck limit.
When does Ember launch?
Ember opens in Bengaluru first, then city by city as each one reaches enough people to be useful on day one. Joining the waitlist is how you get early access, and how we decide which city opens next.
What do I get for joining the waitlist?
Early access when Ember opens in your city, plus three months of Ember Premium free. It is applied automatically. No card and no code.
Which countries and cities is Ember available in?
Bengaluru is first, with Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi NCR, Pune and Chennai following, and the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Brazil after that. The where Ember is available page tracks the current list.
Is Ember on Android and iPhone?
Ember is built for both Android and iOS. Waitlist members get the download link for their platform when Ember opens in their city.
Verification, privacy and safety
How does Ember verify profiles?
Every account goes through a photo and identity check at signup. Until it passes, the profile cannot appear in Discover at all. This is the difference between mandatory verification and an optional badge: when verification is optional, the accounts that skip it are precisely the ones running stolen photos.
Can fake profiles still get through?
No system is perfect and we will not claim otherwise. What mandatory verification does is remove the cheap, high volume version of the problem, where one person runs dozens of accounts from stolen photos. Report anything that feels wrong and it gets reviewed.
What data does Ember keep from verification?
Only what is needed to confirm you are a real person and to keep banned users from returning. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is stored, for how long, and how to have it deleted.
How do I stay safe on a first date?
Video call before you meet, meet somewhere public, tell a friend where you are going, and treat any request for money as a scam without exception, however good the story is. The Ember safety centre goes into more detail.
Using the app
Can I see who liked me on Ember?
Yes, with Premium. Ember does not blur likes and then charge you to unblur them one at a time. Without Premium, likes still reach you the normal way: like the person back and you match.
How does chat work on Ember?
Chat opens once you both like each other. Every match shows what you actually have in common, so the first message has somewhere to start instead of a blank hello. There are no streaks, no expiring matches and no timers pushing you to reply.
How many people can I see in a day?
A capped daily set rather than an endless stack. When you have seen them, you are done for the day, and Premium does not extend it. A limit a subscription removes was never a design principle, it was a toll booth.
Why does Ember show fewer profiles than other apps?
Because the pool being bigger has not made anyone's outcome better. Most people who leave a dating app have swiped through hundreds of profiles and had two conversations that went anywhere. Fewer profiles, each one checked and actually active, is a deliberate trade.
Do I have to swipe?
No. Ember shows you a person at a time with the context that matters, and you decide. There is no deck to grind through and nothing engineered to keep you scrolling at 1am.
How do I delete my Ember account?
From inside the app, or from the delete account page on this site. Deleting removes your profile, photos, matches and chats.
Ember compared with other dating apps
How is Ember different from Tinder?
Two structural differences. Verification on Ember is mandatory, so an unverified profile is never shown to anyone, where Tinder offers verification as an optional badge. And there is no infinite deck on Ember: you get a handful of compatible people a day. The honest trade is scale, since Tinder is global and Ember opens city by city.
How is Ember different from Bumble?
Bumble is built around who has to message first and a countdown on the match. Ember has no timer and no rule about who opens. Either of you can start, and matches do not expire while you work out what to say.
How is Ember different from Hinge?
Hinge and Ember agree on the important thing, which is that fewer and more considered beats infinite. Where they differ is verification, which Hinge treats as optional and Ember treats as the price of appearing at all.
Which dating app is best?
There is no single answer and anyone giving you one is selling something. Work backwards from what went wrong last time: fake profiles point to mandatory verification, endless swiping points to a capped deck, mismatched intentions point to stated intent, and nobody nearby points to whichever app is biggest where you live.
