The infinite deck was never for you
An endless stack of profiles isn’t a feature that got out of hand — it’s the business model working exactly as designed. A dating app that succeeds at introducing you to someone loses a user. A dating app that keeps you swiping keeps an audience. Every streak counter and every “you have 12 new likes” notification follows from that.
We didn’t want to build that, so we capped the deck. It costs us engagement metrics. It’s also the entire point.
What replaces the endless scroll

Fewer profiles is the feature
There’s a reflex to read a smaller deck as a smaller app. It isn’t. When you see forty profiles in a sitting, you give each one about a second and a half — you’re not evaluating anyone, you’re pattern-matching on a first photo. When you see a handful, you actually read them.
The people you match with on Ember are people you looked at properly. That single change does more for the quality of a first conversation than any algorithm we could have written.

Does Ember have swiping at all?
You still like or pass on people — that part is a genuinely good interface. What Ember removes is the infinite deck behind it. You get a handful of compatible people a day rather than an endless stack designed to keep you scrolling.
What happens when I run out of people for the day?
You close the app and get on with your evening. That's the intended outcome, not a failure state. Passed profiles cycle back later rather than vanishing forever, so nobody is lost to a careless swipe.
Are there streaks or daily rewards?
No. There's nothing in Ember that punishes you for not opening it. No streak counters, no login rewards, no notifications engineered to pull you back for no reason.
Isn't a limited deck just a paywall in disguise?
No — the cap isn't there to sell you a way around it. Matching, chat and filters are free forever, and Premium never removes the daily limit. The limit is the product, not the upsell.
